Visuals and Essays: Can they come together?

Visuals The visuals that you want to choose for your paper should revolve around your theme. The theme is a very large topic and can be understood in many different ways. What is the theme of Rich for One Day? _______________ What pictures do you associate with wealth?

These are the literal meanings!!

Can images have a message?...?

How do you interpret the theme? Every time I asked you to respond personally to a story it hopefully helped you to connect to the theme. Many of the book reviews which I’ve read reveal just that about you. Connect to the theme on a personal level. We’ve all been greedy like Ivan at some point in our lives We’ve all lost innocence like the narrator of the Persian Carpet We’ve all taken (or will take) a leap of faith.

How do we get beyond the literal meaning with visuals? First you can make it personal……. Wealth for me is…..

Once you have a personal Connection… Once you have a personal connection it may be easier to relate to the story and become artistic with it. Loss of Innocence At the beginning of the story she struggles internally. There is a hot and cold side and the two struggle to meet.

Emotional roller coaster

Confusion/ Sadness

Letting GO of something you have held onto

Betrayal

Symbolism In order to create your images you will have to look beyond the literal and into the symbolic. The literary terms that you use will also dictate the visuals that you create. If you choose diction you could even mess with the words themselves….. The anxious words that the narrator uses could be plaited into her hair. Combines her two orlds.
