WALT WILF We’re going to start by reading part of the myth again.. After that we’re going to do a role play about the part of the myth where Danae and Perseus are locked in the chest and cast away to sea. Finally you are going to write a diary entry as Danae in the chest on the sea that will include some multi-sensory writing. WILF I’m looking for excellent working and thinking in the role play that will help you to write excellent paragraphs that meet your targets!

The Adventures of Perseus. Acrisius ordered the poor nanny to be executed. Before her blood had run dry, a large chest had been made. Danae and Perseus were squeezed into the chest, the lid nailed down and it was thrown into the sea. Acrisius stood on the beach and watched as it bobbed further and further into the distance. knowing that he had sent his own flesh and blood to their doom, he stood staring till the sun set. But the chest was tugged by powers stronger than a king’s hatred and it drifted towards the island of Seriphos.   Dictys the fisherman would have never been rich but he was a kind man. Every day he went down to the rocks where he cast out his nets and dragged them back in, hoping for a silvery catch. Now on this morning, when he began to pull in the net he had to call to the other fishermen for there was something trapped. It was not a dolphin as they suspected at first but a huge chest. They dragged it onto the beach and before Dictys had a chance to force it open, the lid moved of its own accord. To his amazement, out stepped a beautiful young woman and her toddler – Danae and Perseus.

Look carefully at this picture. What do you think is happening? How are Danae and the King feeling?

What do you think is happening in this picture? How do you think Danae is feeling now she has been rescued?

We need a King , Danae and Dictys! How does the King feel at this moment?......How do you know? How does Danae feel at this moment?...... How do you know? What do you think Dictys thought when he opened the chest?..... We need a King , Danae and Dictys! Who can think of any good words that we could use to help us write a paragraph about Danae would be feeling?

In your writing today, you will be writing a diary entry as if you are Danae locked in the chest. Your writing will be multi-sensory. Who knows what multi-sensory means? Multi-sensory writing is a type of writing where you describe what you can see, smell, hear and touch – using all your senses in your body!

Multi-sensory writing ideas! Smell Hear Touch Sight

1st person – you are writing as though you are Danae C The diary of Danae 1st person – you are writing as though you are Danae Write about how you (as Danae) are feeling about being trapped inside the chest, and what you can see, smell, hear and touch. Remember that you are writing about events which happened in the past, so you must use the past tense throughout your writing.
