Multiplying Fractions

Multiplying fractions by whole numbers

5/2 = 2 ½

3/5

16/6 = 2 4/6 = 2 2/3

10/3 = 3 1/3

8/3 = 2 2/3

24/5 = 4 4/5

24/6 = 4

15/4 = 3 2/4 = 3 1/2

Now you draw the pictures

Multiplying fractions by fractions

1/8

6/12=1/2

2/6 = 1/3

6/15

Now you combine the pictures

3/8 x 2/4 = 6/32 = 3/16

¾ x 3/5 =9/20

2/3 x 5/6 = 10/18 = 5/9

6/7 x 3/5 = 18/35

Dividing fractions

1/6÷3/1= 1/6 x 1/3 = 1/18

¼ ÷3/1= ¼ x 1/3 =1/12

3/5 ÷2/1 = 3/5 x ½=3/10

2/7÷4/1= 2/7 x ¼= 2/28=1/14

Now you draw the lines

1/7÷2/1 1/7 x ½= 1/14

2/5 ÷3/1 2/5 x 1/3= 2/15

2/3 ÷2/1= 2/3 x ½ = 2/6 = 1/3

Fraction Rap Adding and subtracting is plain to see. You match the bottoms perfectly . Multiplying fractions is no big problem. It’s the top times the top, and the bottoms times the bottom. Dividing fractions is easy as pie, Just flip the second fraction and multiply!

Do I multiply or divide the fractions ? When to multiply: * Are you making groups? * Of * Groups of * Times *Multiplied by When to divide: *Are you taking an amount and sorting or breaking it up into equal multiple groups ? * Divided by * Shared equally Ask yourself: Do you think the answer will become smaller or larger? Could be either one! Each Per
