Explain why do I not agree 5 stars ‘The main reason for the German defeat in the First World War was due to the British naval blockade.’ How far do you agree with this statement? ‘The main reason for the German defeat in the First World War was due to the British naval blockade.’ How far do you agree with this statement? Explain your answer (16 marks) + [SPaG: 4 marks] In conclusion, I do agree to an extent that the British naval blockade was an important reason, because it caused the German people to starve and riot and therefore turn against the war. However, I don’t agree that it’s the main reason because the blockade had lasted for years, so it wouldn’t have triggered Germany’s defeat. The main reason why Germany lost the war was Americas entry. With over a million men coming from America in 1918 along with food, supplies and new weapons, and more arriving each week, it was too much for Germany to handle. Germany had no choice but to surrender otherwise they would have been invaded.
