Turn Key Adaptive Learning Solutions Competency-Based Learning Activities Improve Student Retention By William Hoover

The Learning Science Approach

Perpetually Evolving

Heat Maps Generate Data Authors see real-time data on the effectiveness of their content so they can continuously improve it. Jason 10

Benefits of Adaptive Learning Reduced attrition rates Improved retention rates Improved graduation rates Reduced cohort default rates (when students graduate, they are employed and will pay their debts)

Main Talking Points Real-time, in the learning moment feedback Adaptive is like a GPS (recalculating) Safe environment to make mistakes until competency is achieved) Bloom’s “layered” highlighting paired with “Practice” (helps students without study skills) Biological Algorithms Heat map based remediation Value of Missed questions report for Faculty Value of Missed questions report for Students Value of Most Challenging Learning Outcomes

This is the sad reality, and our challenge as educators and educational institutions of higher learning.

Real-time, in the learning moment, remediation and feedback

Textbooks are written by PHD’s and peer reviewed by PHD’s but students with a 7-8th grade reading level are consuming the content. They need alternative ways to digest the content. And, we use HEAT MAPS to drive the remediation (if the majority of students in the nation are struggling with the concept, we NEED to provide them assistance, in the learning moment)

Student Assistance Built-In Hints Checking their work (real-time feedback) Remediation to the book Opportunity to make corrections before submission

“Hints” help the student make a connection between concrete and abstract

Students receive “real-time” feedback, promoting confidence and course completion

1. Individualized Learning Paths There is no wrong path!

A GPS for learning content

There is no wrong path!

Traditional Learning First

Traditional Classrooms

How students feel once they leave the classroom

Traditional Class Assignments READ THE CHAPTER BEFORE YOU COME TO CLASS ATTEND THE LECTURE COMPLETE THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT TAKE THE CHAPTER QUIZ TAKE THE MIDTERM and FINAL EXAMS

Traditional Reading

How does a student feel when they open their book for the very first time?

Where there are no laws, there are no criminals
