Vocabulary Standard Form of a Quadratic Function: , where and are constants. the sign of determines whether the function has a minimum or a maximum value. Axis of Symmetry: The line through the parabola about which the parabola is symmetric, given by the equation . Vertex: The point on the parabola that is the maximum or minimum of the function. The vertex coordinates are given by .

Ex: For the function that follows, identify the intercepts, vertex, the axis of symmetry, and maximum or minimum. Then sketch the graph of the function.
