Victory Gardens Vegetable, fruit, or herb garden planted in backyards Why? To reduce the pressure on public food supply (things you’d buy at the grocery store).

War Bonds loans to the government government promised to return them with interest after ten years or more. the government needed all the extra money it could get to help pay for war equipment. War bonds or defense bonds were bought by purchasing stamps for 10 or 15 cents each. The stamps were then pasted into booklets that could be turned in when full for a $25 war bond. War stamps and bonds were not only a way for the government to raise money, but a way for every person to participate in the war effort. Considered patriotic

The Workforce Brought work to many unemployed by Great Depression Farmers doubled income Weekly earnings rose 70% Women had to go to work! FDR outlawed unequal pay b/c of race

Women’s Roles Factory jobs for the first time ever!! Why? Men were serving in the military overseas. operated cranes made artillery loaded weapons volunteer fire fighters Welders Riveters drill operators taxi cab drivers
