WELCOME BACK WARM UP! Find The roots of the given quadratic: x2+7x+6=0 A.) {0,6} B.) {-6,0} C.) {-6,-1} D.) {1,6}

X-intercepts, Zeros, Roots, Solutions (No calculator)

What are X-intercepts, Zeros, Roots, Solutions? Where the graph (function) crosses the x-axis!

Solving for roots with a calculator Go to y= Type the equation into y1 Graph it 2nd, Trace Zero Left, Right, Guess

Solving for roots without a calculator Step 1: Set equation equal to zero Step 2: Factor equation Remember the diamond game, mustang method, special cases, and GCFs! Step 3: Set each factor equal to zero This gives you two separate equations Step 4: Solve each new equation

Warning I am going to move fast through this because you should know how to factor and solve equations at this point!!! If you don’t, you need to come to tutorials for help on those and use your calculator to solve for the solutions until then!

Example a2+7a+10 Set equation equal to zero Factor Set each factor equal to zero a+2=0 a+5=0 Solve each equation a= -2 a= -5

Example 2w2+5w-3 2w2+5w-3=0 w2+5w-6=0 (w+6)(w-1)=0

Special Note The only way anything can be multiplied and give us zero is if one of those things is zero. So that is why we set each factor equal to zero.
