Finding Solutions by graphing
Finding the Solutions! Remember the other day, we talked about: “solutions” = “zeros” = “roots”
A solution is just the x coordinate where the y coordinate is equal to 0!
Example 1: Find the Solutions! y x
Example 2: Find the Solutions! y x
You can use your calculator to find the zeros of a quadratic function! Put the equation into Y = Choose 2nd → CALC Choose 2: zero Make the arrows point to the zero by hitting enter on the left side and the right side of the zero. Do this again if there is another zero!
Try it! Find the zeros. y = 2x2 + 7x – 3 y = -x2 + 6x + 4
Check your work! y = 2x2 + 7x – 3 x = .386 and x = -3.886 y = -2x2 – 4x – 5 no zeros!
