Bellringer (part i) Vocabulary: The frightened child was ____ in the corner. Your love for your wife must be ___. Why else would you have a mistress? Why do you ___ the dog by giving it treats? While our city was suffering a/an ___ of bombs, your ___ actions saved many lives.

Bellringer (part ii) Write these sentences and identify any subjects, action verbs, direct objects, indirect objects, and/or object complements. Jeffrey and Valerie named their daughter Nancy. Magan is sending her father a birthday card. After class, Bert will give his notes to me. In relation to the rest of us, Sally is smart. John deemed the painting beautiful. Give your brother some money.

Team Linking Verb A Linking Verb is one that shows a state of being. What follows it will come back to rename or describe the subject of the sentence. Note that we use subject pronouns because of this (I, We, He, She). The only things that can follow a linking verb are predicate nouns and predicate adjectives. ALL OF THESE MUST PASS THE REPLACEMENT TEST!

Predicate Nouns and Adjectives Simply put, they are words that follow the linking verb and describe or rename the subject of the sentence. If they rename, they are predicate nouns; if they describe, they are predicate adjectives. Remember that they will not be in Prep Phrases. Formula: S-LV-PA Formula: S-LV-PN My name is Donnie. She will be at the store. I am he. This food was delicious. I walked home. You are a student.

Problem ahead. What about this… I tasted the soup yesterday. The soup tasted delicious!
