Overgrazed

These wholesome-looking people are the root of Desertification of the Prairie

Rangelands in U.S. Rangelands are vast natural landscapes in the form of grasslands, shrublands, woodlands, wetlands, and desert

Types of Grasslands/Rangelands Temperate Grassland Prairie Tropical Savannah Pampa Steppe

Who Manages Rangelands? Private Owners BLM (Bureau of Land Management) National Forest Service

Rangeland Management Issues Fire Overuse Erosion Decline of Native Species

Fire is Good

Fire improves grassland habitat Grassland after Fire Suppression Grassland when Fire is not suppressed

Why is Fire Good on Rangeland? Fire is also an important regulator of range vegetation, whether set by humans or resulting from lightning. Fire tends to reduce the abundance of woody plants and promote herbaceous plants including grasses, forbs, and grass-like plants. The suppression or reduction of periodic wildfires from desert shrublands, savannas, or woodlands frequently invites the dominance of trees and shrubs to the near exclusion of grasses and forbs.[1]

Taylor Grazing Act

The Taylor Grazing Act of 1934 The Taylor Grazing Act of 1934 (43 USC 315), signed by President Roosevelt, was intended to "stop injury to the public grazing lands [excluding Alaska] by preventing overgrazing and soil deterioration; to provide for their orderly use, improvement, and development; [and] to stabilize the livestock industry dependent upon the public range“ The BLM issues/sells permits.
