The quintessence of the Resilience Assessment Methodology in the SmartResilience project Meeting with Project Officer Brussels, March 9, 2017 A. Jovanović, B. Caillard EU-VRi - European Virtual Institute for Integrated Risk Management Stuttgart, Germany

The quintessence of the resilience assessment methodology in the SmartResilience project OUTCOME OF A DISRUPTIVE EVENT? What could be the possible outcome of an assumed disruptive events (scenarios)? BEHAVIOUR WITHIN PRESCRIBED LIMITS? Will the infrastructure behavior remain within the prescribed limits? RESILIENCE OF AN INFRASTRUCTURE? How can one check if a infrastructure is “resilient”? Functionality Level Assessment Stress-testing Resilience Level Assessment INFLUENCE OF INTERCONNECTEDNESS? How the operation of an infrastructure impacts the others? INVESTMENT IN RESILIENCE OPTIMIZATION? How to get the best value-for-money in the shortest possible time? Exploring interconectedness Multi-criteria Decision Making

How the adverse event on one infrastructure impacts or can impact other infrastructures? ANALYZE INTERCONNECTEDNESS The SmartResilience project looks at interdependencies between infrastructures to understand how the operation of one impacts the others. In other words, how one can assess the influence of interconnectedness.

How to get the best value-for-money in the shortest possible time? MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION MAKING Various resilience management improvement measure portfolios (“RIMPs”), e.g. educating people, improving communication, investing in new equipment, etc. can be compared to identify the best investment in resilience optimization.
