Central Park PYP News We Are an Authorized IB World School! October 2017  Jen Servoss - Coordinator  servossjl@midlandps.org Project Lead the Way! We Are an Authorized IB World School! After three years of training, hard work, and implementation, Eastlawn and Carpenter received notification of their IB PYP Authorization in June. Our IB Authorization has followed us to Central Park! As an Authorized IB-PYP school, we will work to develop students that can think critically about concepts and issues, be compassionate about the world around them and be creative problem solvers. Our teachers, students and families will embark on a journey into learning that will propel them to take actions that can change the world. We are now All grade level teams have kicked off their first PLTW module! Students have been introduced to the Engineering Design Process and are using this process to solve problems within the modules. Each module includes: 3 activities, a project and a problem! Great STEM learning is happening at Central Park! Below are the current grade level modules: Kindergarten: Structure & Function – Exploring Design 1st Grade: Light & Sound 2nd Grade: Materials Science – Properties of Matter 3rd Grade: Variation of Traits 4th Grade: Energy – Collisions 5th Grade: Robotics & Automation part of a global community of schools committed to developing young people who will make contributions resulting in a more peaceful world. We are thrilled to continue our journey as an Authorized IB-PYP school! October Learner Profile Attribute and Attitude Focus Communicator(LP) Confidence (Att.) How to help at home A communicator expresses themselves confidently and creatively in more than one way. We communicate in the following ways: Reading Writing Speaking Listening Non-verbal Students show confidence in their ability as learners. They have the courage to take risks. Confident students apply what they have learned to new situations and they make appropriate choices. Encourage your child to stay in touch with friends and relatives – write a letter, make a phone call or send an email! After solving a math problem, orally discuss how the problem was solved or express the answer in a picture! Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. -Nelson Mandela
