8th grade warm ups week of 5-7-18 Subtitle

Monday (Mon.) 5-7-18 EQ: How do magnets interact? WU: What are the three properties of a magnet? Ans: 1: a magnet attracts material that contain iron 2: attracts and repels other magnets 3: has one pole that points north when allowed to swing freely

Tuesday (Tues.) 5-8-18 WU: What is the magnetic field? Ans: The magnetic field is the area around the magnet. The area around the poles is the strongest.

Wednesday (Wed.) 5-9-18 WU: How is a magnetic field produced in an atom? Ans: A spinning electron produces a magnetic field that makes the electrons behave like a tiny magnet in that atom.

Thursday (Thurs.) 5-10-18 WU: What are two effects of Earth’s magnetic field? Ans: 1: Earth’s magnetic field can magnetize ferromagnetic material left in a certain position for many years. 2: Earth’s magnetic field lines up with iron in molten rocks. When this happens scientist can study the magnetic history of Earth.

Friday (Fri.) 5-11-18 No warm up due to the 6 Flags trip.
