Write down anything in GREEN. Year 9 History Seven Years War Write down anything in GREEN. In the 1600s and 1700s, both Britain and France established settlements in what is now North America. These two countries were among the most powerful imperial nations in Europe and around the world. They were bitter rivals. Furs, fish, and timber were the main resources that France and Britain wanted in the North; cash crops were the main goods produced in the South. Over time, Britain and France became more and more competitive in imperialism. They were at war in Europe and North America by 1754. In North America, the British controlled New England and the Hudson’s Bay Company, while France controlled New France along the St. Lawrence River and the Ohio River Valley.
