Presentation transcript:

Networks By the end of this session, you will know: What is meant by a Network Topology What the thre main types of network are I will be asking you to draw the network topologies for homework!

Network Topologies There are 3 main network topologies: THE RING THE BUS THE STAR Show the main 3 topologies

The Ring THE RING With a Ring network the computers are connected in a circle and information only flows in one way

The Bus THE BUS With a Bus network the computers are connected to a centre ‘trunk’ cable so it looks like bus stops on a main route

The Star THE STAR

How to choose Consider the practical advantages and disadvantages of each The physical & logical set up of a company should be considered E.g. how many offices, locations etc How is the company organissed, peoples positions, critical access etc In most real life set ups a mixed network is chosen

Group Exercise:10 minutes In groups of 2:

Netwok Topolgy Recap STAR NETWORK MESH NETWORK RING NETWORK BUS NETWORK WIRELESS NETWORK STAR NETWORK

Star The Star is different to the Ring and Bus as it relies on a central host or hub.
