Safety & Security The Department of Public Safety is responsible for safety & security on campus twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Public Safety Headquarters is located on the northeast side of campus parking lot E. Public Safety personnel do not have police powers, but work to ensure the enforcement of state, local, & federal rules, regulations, ordinances & laws. They also enforce University regulations & conduct routine parking enforcement.

Event Personnel Job Descriptions Student Centers Event Staff Private Security Staff On Duty Operations Manager: Responsible for event flow on behalf of Student Centers Administration Conducts pre-event meetings Manages Student Centers Administartion Event Staff Coordinates with all service providers Ensures instructional event signage is in place Ensure proper levels of lighting and sound are adhered to Student Centers Administration Event Staff: Maintains additional set-up, break down and monitoring of events Completes equipment set-ups Places appropriate event signage Sell tickets and other event concessions Wrist bands patrons Monitors event capacity Utilizes metal detector devices Performs bag / purse searches for contraband Conducts patron pat downs Monitors areas for safety and security concerns

Event Personnel Job Descriptions Public Safety / Hartford P.D. Health Care Staff (E.M.T.’s, Athletic Trainers, Etc.) Security Notes University of Hartford Public Safety shall be the first responders & overall security/safety agency for any event at the University & shall contact external safety & security agencies in the event of an emergency due to the unique nature of the University's placement within the cities/towns of: Hartford, CT West Hartford, CT Bloomfield, CT Due to the fact that only those officers employed by the University of Hartford & area police have jurisdiction over events occurring on University property, event sponsors may not outsource security officers. All arrangements will be coordinated through the Department of Public Safety

Safety & Security Planning Larger special events may necessitate developing a safety plan for special events that includes: Access points into / out of the hosting venue & associated spaces Parking Evacuation in case of emergency Safety staffing (Public Safety, Hartford Police, C.S.C. Security & E.M.T.s) Emergency notification Larger and more complex special events may necessitate the need to develop a safety and security “command center” where such related staff can coordinate their operations and always have a member of their team found at. The command center is also a great place for general special event information needs
