Tips and Advise for Writing

Omg, Just Stop! I think... I believe... It seems to me... In my opinion, ... In my experience, I’ve learned that... Just write everything AFTER what this part as a complete thought. I believe the author intends... INSTEAD……The author intends...

Set and analysis advise It must flow! THE “WHAT” – director, genre, title, technique, context, effect The “How” – SPECIFICALLY, how did Burton make this technique show that effect? The “why” – why does it create the effect? The “why” - Why does Burton want us to feel that way?

Stop it!!!!! This is shown when An example of this is This is important because This evidence shows/reveals This proves Just take these OUT! Use an active verb The long shot makes Peg look tiny and the room look huge. The director creates fear in his to audience to connect them to Peg’s character.

Don’t be lazy! The reader should not be working harder than the writer! The director is trying to…. What the director wants is to show This is how he creates the mood The technique shows how he is feeling DON’T BE LAZY. DO THE WORK! • “How” is usually used in place of actual writing/precise expression. • Don’t ask the reader to do the writer’s job. • Readers shouldn’t have to fill in the mental blanks.

Be specific!! The music adds to the feeling of the scene. An example of this is when Edward and Kim were by the ice sculpture. ACCCCKKKKKK!!!!! The music evokes a romantic feeling in the viewer as Edward skillfully creates the ice sculpture that Kim is dancing under.

Transitions Concluding Sentence in Paragraph: Burton’s use of long shot and close-up contributes to a feeling of dread for a character’s well-bring. Burton uses music to further create a suspenseful atmosphere. Transition between ideas: Like long shots, Burton uses close-up shots to develop a sense of fear for the character’s situation. Burton not only used long shots to create dread in his viewer, but also to focus on uplifting dramatic moments.
