What is Social Bookmarking? Being able to: Store bookmarks online Share with others Search through what others have bookmarked Discover new sites Organize sites

Basic Features Browser “bookmarklets” for one-click link saving RSS feeds Tag capability Sharing capability

How It Works The creator of a bookmark assigns tags to web resource Classifies information Provides access to that person’s bookmarked resources, other users make social connections with other individuals interested in any topic.

Let’s Compare Delicious Diigo StumbleUpon Google Bookmarks Search and sharing features great to explore even if not used for storage. Most widely used, last count 1 million users. Supports bookmarks with sticky notes; flexible blog integration. Beginners might not find it. easy to learn. Instead of searching, you stumble…and randomly jump around the web. Fun way to browse web and store bookmarks. Has some organization options not seen on other sites. Available in igoogle and with google account. Easy for beginners.

How Does This Impact Education? Tagging information resources with keywords has the potential to change how we store and find information. It becomes less important to know where information was found and more important to know how to retrieve it in a framework created by and shared with peers and colleagues. Social bookmarking simplifies the distribution of reference lists, bibliographies, papers, and other resources among peers or students.
