Olympic torch relay facts The Olympic Torch was lit in Greece. The Olympic Torch Relay lasts for 70 days. The Olympic Torch will be travelling on the Relay over 1000 cities, villages and towns. Before every modern Olympic Games, a new flame is lit in the Temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece. The choice of Olympia is a starting point for the flame also emphasises the link between the Ancient and Modern Olympic Games . The flame is taken on a short relay around Greece and is handed over to the new host city at another ceremony. Wenlock >

Paralympic torch relay facts The Paralympic Torch Relay lasts for 5 days – starting on 24th of August, and finishing on the 29th of August. More than 3,500 people will be carrying the Paralympic Torch during the Relay. It will be carried from Stoke Mandeville Stadium to the Olympic stadium.
