English I Curriculum The curriculum is designed to develop students’ skills in the areas of reading, writing, conventions of grammar, listening, speaking and technology skills. These skills are targeted in efforts to prepare students for their college career and/or the work world.

Classroom Rules Stay focused, stay on task That means: All electronic devices are out of sight Food is put away Coming to class prepared Pens, paper, books Right mind aka Check it at the door

Classroom Rules We listen to the person speaking We always hold outside conversations outside the classroom. If asked to repeat what a person has said, you should be able to do so If asked to analyze, argue, or agree with a person, you should be able to. Judgement

Classroom Rules Respect is always given I don’t need to know about who gives respect and doesn’t give it or who has to earn it before they get it or who just has it regardless of what they do or blah blah blah. In this class, we respect everyone

Expectations Students are expected to follow the rules dictated by the Chicago Public Schools Discipline Code Handbook, Harlan Community Academy rules and classroom rules. All students are expected to perform at their best on a daily basis. This includes, but is not limited to punctuality, preparedness and cooperation.

Expectations I expect you to complete homework assignments on time Late Assignments – 60% right off the bat So if an assignment is worth 100 points and it is late you can only receive 60 out of 100. If you get something wrong, it can be even lower.

Expectations I expect you to come to me and tell me what you need I can’t help what I don’t know about I am paid to come in here and assist you in your education SPEAK UP!
