Forces and Motion 2 Force
May the Force Be With You!
Gravity, Friction, and Pressure
Pressure. What is Pressure? “Amount of force exerted on an area” Earth’s gravity pulls downward Due to gravity, your feet exert a force on the surface.
 Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first. AKA….. All forces act in pairs!!!
Friction, Gravity, and Pressure Friction Friction - The force that one surface exerts on another when the two rub against each other. Acts in a direction.
 A push or pull on an object  Total amount of force applied to an object.
Forces.
Sir Isaac Newton Force, Gravity, and Friction. Forces Force – a push or pull on an object Contact force – push or pull on one object by another object.
Force : Push or pull Newton: unit to measure force Net force: combination of force Unbalance force: object start moving Balance force: object doesn`t move.

Chapter 9 Forces and Buoyancy. Force An influence that causes an object to undergo a change in motion Generally a push or a pull.
The Nature of Forces Chapter 11 Force A force is a push or pull A force gives energy to an object sometimes causing it to start moving, stop moving,
Forces in Action What is motion? Motion is movement. Example: moving in a car. Motion is a change in position relative to a stationary reference point.
Chapter 19 Liquids.
Chapter 3, Section 1 Pressure
Forces and Newton’s Laws
* An object’s change in position relative to a reference point. * Without a reference point we are unable to see motion.
Force. Something that changes the state of rest or the state of motion of an object. Can be a push or a pull Unit of measure Newtons N.
Forces in Fluids Chapter 3.
Motion & Forces Force A push or a pull *Cause an object to start moving, stop moving, or change direction.
Ch. 3 Forces I. Newton’s 2 nd Law: Different forces and masses affect the acceleration of objectsA. Newton’s 2 nd Law: 1. Greater Forces cause greater.
Chapter 10.4 Learning Goals
Buoyancy! Why Things Float!. Buoyancy The force that acts upwards on an object, opposite of gravitational force, on a floating object The force that acts.
Flight Concept Web Project By: Ashley Drag- The force that opposes thrust.
Forces and Fluids Chapter 12 BIG IDEAS Newton’s laws apply to all forces Gravity is a force exerted by all masses Friction is a force that opposes motion.

Per and 7 Take notes on the following in your Physics Journals HW will be handed out, due on FRIDAY Quiz on Forces on Friday TEST.
Friction & Gravity.
PRESSURE & BUOYANCY Ch 11. I. PRESSURE A.The force exerted on a surface divided by the area over which the force is exerted. B.Pressure = Force = Newton’s.
Chapter 17-Newton’s Laws Gravity and Motion-The acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects on Earth; this is 9.8 m/s/s Air resistance (fluid.
CHAPTER 2 MOTION. PS 10 a,b The student will investigate and understand scientific principles and technological applications of force, and motion. Key.
AND THEIR FORCES Fluids. Matter that can flow is called a fluid. “Fluid” does not mean the same thing as “liquid.” Both liquids and gases are called fluids.
FRICTION AND GRAVITY.
FORCES CH. 2. What is a Force? Def: a push or a pull –Measured in Newtons Kg · m/s 2 –Balanced Force – an equal but opposite force acting on an object.

Physics and kayaking Friction – The force one surface Exerts on another. The friction between the Paddle and hand permits the kayaker to hold on. Pressure – The force exerted on a surface divided by area. The pressure of the inflatable kayak is greater than the pressure of the atmosphere Newton’s 3 law – For every action There is an = and opposite reaction. The Kayaker pushes back and Moves forward. Gravity – The force that pulls objects to Earth. The water flows down the mountain due to gravity. Buoyant force- The upward force exerted by a fluid. The buoyant force acts in an upward direction to the kayak.
