Brief Overview on Packet Transport Network (PTN) Presenter: Er. Subash Chandra Pakhrin (7424) Backbone Transmission Directorate Babarmahal, Kathmandu 1/3/2019

What is PTN PTN is a hybrid technology that supports E1 + IP services. It works on the MPLS – TP (Multiprotocol Label Switching – Transport Protocol) It supports PWE3 (Pseudo Wire Emulation Edge to Edge Technology) 1/3/2019

How is a PTN Hybrid Technology ? 1/3/2019

Where does MPLS – TP lie in Open System Interconnect (OSI) Model MPLS – TP lie somewhere in layer 2.75 In layer 2 we get the essence of VLAN and MAC address 1/3/2019

Difference between MSTP and PTN MSTP (Multiple Switching Transport Protocol) is mainly oriented for TDM PTN presents advantages when packet service is predominant. 1/3/2019

What is MAC address Media Access Control (MAC) Its unique identification number for each equipment. Its 48 bit in length. Each equipment has unique MAC address 1/3/2019

What is VLAN Virtual LAN We have 2^12 = 4096 VLANS Among them we use VLANS from 16 to 4000 other VLANS are used for some special purpose. Segregation Technique that helps to fragment IP – V4 address. Can we purchase some public IP – V4 address ???? 1/3/2019

Tunnel, Pseudo wire, Ethernet, TDM 1/3/2019

Services Provided by PTN STM1 Services In 1-STM1 we have 63 E1. PTN is so beautiful and so lucid that it uses simple nomenclature in the flipside other equipment uses K – L – M nomenclature. E1 Services IP services E-Line / VPWS / Point to Point E – Tree / VPLS / Point to Multipoint 1/3/2019

E – Line and E - Tree E – Line E - Tree 1/3/2019

Bandwidth supported by PTN 10 G optical port for line card (NNI – Network Network Interface). 1G optical port for line / user card (NNI / UNI user network interface). 100Mbos Electrical port 100Mbps Optical port STM1 optical port E1 ## STM4 optical card under test 1/3/2019

We will meet in successive class very soon. Thank You. Any Questions ? We will meet in successive class very soon. Thank You. 1/3/2019
