What is risk assessment? What is this? „A Hazard“ What is this? ….. A Tiger? – Yes, but else? – A hazard! What are the hazards of the tiger? – The teeth, the prawn, the muscles, … However he seems rather sleepy..

What is risk assessment? What is this? „A big hazard“ What is this? ….. A big hazard! – The tiger is hungry and agressive!

What is risk assessment? So what is a hazard? “A possible source of danger” In terms of human risk assessment a hazard can be „corrosive“ , „sentitising“, „very toxic (LD50< 25 mg/kg bw)“, „genotoxic“, „carcinogenic above NOAEL“, „teratogenic above NOAEL“ , …

What is risk assessment? What is a risk? “It depends upon the exposure”

What is risk assessment? What is this? ….. A big hazard! – The tiger is agressive! “This is negligible risk, though the hazard is high”

What is risk assessment? Risk = Hazard x Exposure The higher the hazard with constant exposure the higher the risk The higher the exposure with constant hazard the higher the riks And the other way round This means e.g. the lower the LD50 or the NOAEL from long term studies, the higher the risk with constant exposure. There are many ways to describe the risk. For the risk assessment with biocides …

What is this? ….. A big hazard! – The tiger is hungry and agressive!
