Heterogeneity In Latino Voters Latino Identity and Differences in Political Behavior

Political Activities Index of LM316 and LM317 (political Activities) Range from 0 to 8 Combination of Protest, Petition Signing, Contact of Officials, and Active Work in the Community

Homogeneity in political behavior should mean no difference for active identity. We find that reporting a Latino identity is related to unique political behavior We explain this with the difference in a pan-national ethnic identity vs a national identity – there is heterogeneity in the Latino population’s political behavior in relation to whether they identify as a national of their birth country or as part of the pan-national “Latino” group
