100 Book Challenge An overview. . .

How Can Parents Help? Make sure your child reads at least 30 minutes each night. Make sure your child read books they enjoy. If they are stopping to sound out words, the books are too hard. Do NOT test children on their reading. If you are able to read with your child, be sure to talk about the idea presented in the book. Laugh at the funny parts, wonder out loud about the information, talk about the characters, and simply enjoy the book! 4. Sign the logsheet so your child’s teachers know that you are actively involved with the home reading. Even if your children already love to read and you don’t think they need to keep logsheets, please sign the log anyway.

At Independent Reading Levels Students. . . Can use what they know to figure out the few hard words alone.. Are engaged for long periods of time. Want to do it again. Can tell you what they’ve learned from their reading Laugh at the funny parts. Read with expression. Are relaxed, comfortable, and having fun. Are learning to love to read.

Student Responsibilities. . . Read at least ten steps at home each week  record it on their log Read at least ten steps at school each week  record it on their log If students miss a day of school, they still need to read and record it on their log. Finish one chapter book each week (unless at the Bronze level). Return any books that were borrowed from school Maintain a reading log and turn it in to homeroom teacher each week
