All About Nutrition

Nutrition The act or process of eating and using nutrients in food for living and growing Example: food

Calorie a unit used to measure the amount of energy a food can make when taken into the body. The more calories is has, the more energy the body needs to use to digest it.

Carbohydrates (Carbs) Nutrients that you body uses for energy. Includes starches, and sugars. Found in grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Fats Nutrients that provide your body with energy and help your body work well. Found in meats and butter.

Proteins Nutrients that your body needs for energy, growth, and healing body parts. Found in meats, beans, and nuts.

Vitamins Nutrients that help your body grow and heal. Found in vegetables, fruits, and dairy products.

Minerals Nutrients that are not made from living things. Found in fruits, vegetables, and meats.

Water Keeps body temperature steady and stops the body from drying out

Food Pyramid A tool that helps you decide how much of different types of food you should eat each day.
