Here’s what our students said … DofE has been great and has allowed me to see that I can succeed in a range of tough situations. I have gained so much from doing DofE, from confidence and self belief to simply new skills being learnt,  in my case first aid. The expedition was the best thing I have done at Bohunt I have realised that I can actually do things by myself and I'm not a kid who needs supervision and someone else to organise things for them.

“I decided to do the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award because I had something to prove both to myself and others. To myself, I had to prove that I wasn't as dependent as I thought and that I had the power with the help of others to become more mobile and grasp every opportunity as any other person could. I had to prove to everyone else both with or without a disability that we didn't have to be confined by the limitations we face and that even if things get hard no matter who you are you can push through. I wanted to show other people with physical impairments who perhaps thought it wasn't possible like I once did that it can be done and it is so fulfilling because not everyone is lucky enough to have a support network of friends and teachers as well as an outdoor education system to make things possible.” Jodie 

Where will the Adventure take you ?

The sections Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community. Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities. Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests. Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad

It is hard work Volunteering: 3 months Physical: Skills: All participants must undertake a further three months in the Volunteering, Physical or Skills section. Participation in the final expedition will depend on evidence of participation in each of the above sections on eDofE Your start date on EDofE will be October the 1st so you can back date one section for three months from then

eDofE As soon as you have registered on class charts get started! Log-in as soon as you get your record book. Check your school email for “username”, and “password”. Maybe change the email to one which you check often Fill in all sections of planner , with details of activities. Make sure that you have an Assessor for each section. After required time period, submit your award , with evidence and Assessors report.

What insurance does the DofE provide? The Duke of Edinburgh's Award provides limited personal accident insurance cover when on expedition What Insurance do Licensed Organisations have in place? As a condition of their Operating Licence, each Licensed Organisation must arrange Public Liability Insurance, which will provide an indemnity in respect of their legal liability (and that of participants and adult helpers) for bodily injury or damage to property arising in connection with a DofE activity. Am I insured whilst doing Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Residential sections? You will need to ask the deliverer/provider of each activity what insurance cover is in place or required to be taken out for each activity you do. What insurance is in place whilst I am doing the Expedition section? The provider (e.g. your school, Licensed Organisation, youth group etc.) of the training, practices and qualifying expedition should have in place the insurance to deliver this section. Ask them if you have any questions.

Application, Cost & Payments Register and secure a place with a £25 non-refundable payment via the School Gateway. Registration window is Monday 17 September to Monday 15 October 2018. Costs Full cost of participation will be the region of £95, to cover DofE Bronze Registration , and all camping, transport, training and assessment costs. 3 Scheduled payments Non- refundable registration payment of £25 due by 15 October 2018, followed by payments of £35 due end of February 2019 and £35 (t.b.c.) due end of April 2019. Withdrawals Should you later decide to withdraw from the programme. The initial £25 payment which covers the DofE Registration cost and DofE pack is not refundable. Other refunds are discretionary and will depend upon the time of withdrawal and specific circumstances.

Schedule 2018 Welcome to DofE sessions Thu 13 September 2018– DofE Bronze Information Evening - Launch. 6pm to 6.40pm in Sports Hall 1 Presentation will be posted on the School website. By end of September Letter home explaining how to register and payment schedule. October Registration ( Providing deposit received) and record books issued towards end of October Get started as soon as you register. The start date will be from this date Gateway will open Monday 17 September and will close Monday 15 October 2018. Any applications after Monday 15 October will be discretionary. November/December Team Forming ( Own time) ( Can be friends, but consider common fitness levels) Welcome to DofE sessions

Schedule 2019 January/February 2019 Mega- Mapping for the Practice Expedition – 3 hrs after school Mega- Mapping for the Qualifying Expedition – 3hrs after school Own time for route planning. (Maps/ route cards submitted 8 weeks before Expeditions) eDofE Mapping ( Teams responsibility to submit maps and route cards to deadlines) February – May Training Sessions ( Various topics) – 1 hr after school Information on Outdoor Education website, with some home study and task completion required. Full schedule to be advised. February 2nd Payment (£35 by 28 February 2019) April Final Payment (£ estimated £35 but to be confirmed) by 30 April 2019.
