More Logarithms Graphing and Inverses Lesson 7.4B

Warm-up a) Rewrite in exponential form. log93 = 1 2 b) Rewrite in log form. ey=8 c) Evaluate without a calculator. i) log216 ii) log 100 iii) ln 1

Recall how to find the inverse of a function Find the inverse of y = 3x - 5

1. Find the inverse of each function y = log3x y = 12x y = ex-3 y = log (x – 5)

2. Graph each function. y = log2x y = log3 (x + 2) c) y = log5x + 3

3. The wind speed s (in miles per hour) near the center of a tornado can be modeled by s = 93 log d + 65 where d is the distance that the tornado travels. In 1925 a tornado traveled 220 miles through 3 states. Estimate the wind speed. If a tornado had a wind speed of 158 mph, estimate how far it might travel.
