Locate a partner Turn to a partner and try and figure out what rights are or where you've heard the term before.

So... what are rights? Rights are the freedoms we all have. They are the foundation of our society. The foundation of a house

Talk to your partner again Turn to your partner and try and come up with 3 examples of rights or freedoms. Record these rights or freedoms on your worksheet

Examples of Rights or Freedoms? Pick one of your examples of a right or a freedom. Come and write your favorite answer on the board.

Rights or Freedoms Examples of Rights: Speech Religion Happiness Education More...?

Bill of Rights Facts WHAT: The first 10 amendments to the US Constitution. Amendments are changes to official documents A list of some of the rights Americans have WHEN: Added in 1791 WHO: Written by James Madison, our 4th President. James Madison

Why write the Bill of Rights? There must be a reason why the James Madison wanted to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution.

WHY? WHY: To guarantee your rights! To prevent the new American Government from taking away your rights, like the "Freedom of Speech".

Walk and Talk In a moment we're all going to stand up and walk around the room sharing our answers. We'll talk to two or three people we are not sitting next to. Start by saying "Hi, I'm ________________ and the Bill of Rights is... " When you're both done, say "I like your answer, _______. Thank you for sharing.," and find a new partner. Come back to your seat when finished.

Conclusion What can you tell me about what the Bill of Rights is and why it is important to your life?
