US National Landmarks Alcatraz Jail Cell Statue of Liberty The US has a lot of different national landmarks. For example, we have the world famous Statue of Liberty. In 1884, the Statue of Liberty was given to the US by the French to express the friendship and liberty shared by both. Next, we have Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz was a prison from 1934 to 1971. In 1972, Alcatraz became a visitors site. Many people go to see this former prison. When it was a prison, it was almost impossible to escape because it was surrounded by water. United States Population In the year 2016, there were about 324,896,254 people in the USA, but there is no exact number. The US population will never be the same for more than 12 to 20 seconds. I did a quick experiment and found out that in 5 minutes, about 20 people were born. California has the highest population at about 39,144,818 people. Wyoming has the least at 586,107. Even though people are dying everywhere, the population keeps on growing.

Holidays The US has many different holidays. For example, we have Veterans Day. Veterans Day is the day we honor the people that were in the army, navy, coast guard, air force, or the marines. These people sacrificed their lives for us so that we could live a peaceful life, so they deserve a celebration. This event takes place on November 11th. We also have Independence Day. Independence Day is celebrated because it is the day we freed ourselves from England. These are only 2 of the many holidays that the only the US celebrates.

Presidential History Abraham Lincoln Washington’s deathbed George Washington spent most of his time at Mount Vernon, his home. He was president from 1789 to 1797. George is famous president because he led the US troops during the Revolutionary War. He gave them hope when he planed the attack on the Hessians, German soldiers. He died in 1799 because of pneumonia, a disease. He died on his death bed in Mount Vernon. He was buried there too. His last words were “ Tis well.” his wife and a lot of doctors were surrounding him when he died. In Mount Vernon, you can see where he was buried, where he lived, and his death bed. Abraham Lincoln had a rough past. His mother died when he was 9 years old. His father re-married. Abraham Lincoln loved to read. He would walk for miles in search of books. He made his own textbooks to learn. Washington’s deathbed George Washington’s Mount Vernon Abraham Lincoln
