What do I believe? (SPIRITUAL) SPIES What do I believe? (SPIRITUAL)

*Journal* “Great Spirit” "O Great Spirit, I seek strength, not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy: myself. Make me ever ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so that when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame." Reflection: In your own words, write down what the author of this prayer is asking for. Add any personal comments that you would like.

Spiritual vs. Religious ALL human beings are spiritual. Our spirit is part of who we are It’s the part that recognizes that there is more to life than just the things we can see, hear and touch Faith in something greater than ourselves (“Agnostic”) Knowledge ----------------------------- Faith “I know that….” “I can’t prove it but I believe that…” Write 3 things that you know for sure Write 3 things that you can’t prove but believe to be true

Religion Not all human beings are religious Religion is a group of people (community) coming together to express a common set of beliefs World Religions are Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism, and Christianity Catholics go to church, celebrate the Sacraments, have the Apostles Creed, observe Christmas and Easter.

Palm Sunday The most important belief of the Christian church is that Christ died and rose again on Easter, conquering death. Palm Sunday (also called Passion Sunday) begins with Jesus entering Jerusalem as an honoured prophet but ends with His crucifixion. We remember His pain and sacrifice of giving up everything, even His life, to take on our sins

*Create your own Creed* (list of beliefs) Not everyone is religious, but everyone has beliefs! Look at the sheets you filled out yesterday, they list a lot of the things that you believe in Using that as a guide, write a draft of your own creed (See task and rubric “What Do I Believe?”) See the example on the next slides When you are done, use the magazines, scissors, markers, pencil crayons and make it into a creative poster on the construction paper
