Happy Rainbow Day! Important Dates Classroom News 2/23 – NO SCHOOL 3/7 – Bunny Hop and Silent Auction at the IC 3/8 – NO SCHOOL – Parent/Teacher Conferences TODAY: February Book Orders Due and Rainbow Day! Classroom News Happy Rainbow Day! We had so much fun dressing up in pink clothes and drew with pink crayons, pens and markers on pink paper. What a great way to celebrate earning 100 more gold coins! MathTips: Practice counting by tens, fives and twos! Use fun pens or a white board to work on writing numbers. Contact Information: Ms. Heather Hurley hurleyheather@mhasd.k12.wi.us 437-7615

Here’s what we learned: PTO NEWs Our K-5 PTO is so grateful for those families who have already donated items for our Silent Auction coming up on Wed., March 7th at the IC. We are still in desperate need for more items. Your child will be bringing home another flier listing suggested items to donate. If you are willing and able, please bring in donated items for the baskets by Thursday, Feb 22nd.   Contact Tracy Fickett with any questions/concerns. tafickett@gmail.com Here’s what we learned: Literacy: Our new sight words this week were was and he. We practiced sight word songs, talked about cause and effect, sequenced events in a story, and asked questions to clarify our understanding while reading. We blended phonemes, segmented phonemes, and talked about past and present forms of verbs.. Handwriting: We learned correct letter formation of lowercase letter z and worked on writing words to practice letter formation of lowercase letters. We will review next week and then spend handwriting times practicing upper and lowercase letter formation as the children prepare to go to first grade. Math: We had fun graphing, tally marking, and playing Valentine’s Day math games. We practiced counting by fives and twos. We solved addition and subtraction number stories and explained the strategy used. Writer’s Workshop: We worked on adding more details to our stories and worked on telling it from beginning to end in the correct order. STEM: We read The Three Billy Goats Gruff and constructed bridges for the goats to use to stay safe from the troll. This was similar to our bridges for the gingerbread man, but this time the children could choose from any of the materials in the STEM bins. We split up into groups of three or four and did a lot more arguing and less talking and problem-solving than we have been. It was tricky to make a bridge that had an Opening underneath for boats to pass Through but enough support to keep It above the water. We talked about Making sure the bridge could be accessed by land or with a ramp and that railings are important to keep People safe. Reminders Please email me with your desired conference time. Please remember that not everyone can be schedules for an evening slot and save these for people who can’t get off work for conferences. Thank you!
