Understanding Your General Education Program Transfer Credit Evaluation James Madison University

This is the GenEd checklist sent with your transfer credit evaluation.

Have I completed my General Education requirements? If this box is checked, you have completed all of your GenEd requirements. You can get started on your major requirements! If this box is not checked, but you feel that you will earn an appropriate Associates Degree that will waive your GenEd requirements, please tell your advisor. Remember, your GenEd requirements will not be waived until the Office of the Admissions has an official transcript listing the appropriate degree conferred from your previous college.

Clusters? General Education courses and requirements are organized into five areas of study that we call clusters. All students must complete all five clusters.

Tracks? In Cluster Three, you must choose, and complete, one track.

Psychology Credit Our psychology department will award credit for General Psychology (GPSYC 101 at JMU) if your school offers a single three- or four-hour introductory course. Similarly, JMU will award GPSYC 160 credit if your school offers a single three- or four-hour complete life span human development course. Look for more details when you receive your evaluation.

Degree Requirements At JMU you must complete GenEd, major, and requirements for your degree (e.g. B.A., B.S.) Additionally, all students must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours to graduate. Of the total required semester hours, 50% must be earned from a four-year institution with at least 25% earned from JMU. All students must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative and major GPA to graduate from JMU.

Foreign Language If you studied a language for two or more years in high school, JMU will not award credit for elementary (i.e. 101 or 102) level foreign language courses taken at another university/college.

Final Transcripts The Office of Admissions must receive an official final transcript from the previous institution(s) attended. It is your responsibility to request official transcripts from your former institution(s).
