Growing Up Fit Together for 3rd grade Lesson 3 Growing Up Fit Together for 3rd grade

Being Active You don’t have to be involved in sports to be active. Everyone needs physical activity to be healthy and strong. Physical activity helps you have more energy, be more alert, and learn better.

Couch Potato & Mouse Potato Have you ever heard the term “couch potato”? What does it mean? Now have you ever heard the term “mouse potato”? This refers to someone who sits in front of a computer all day and does not exercise. Remember we should be active for 60 minutes a day.

First you start with your hands on your hips. Lesson 3 Five N Jive Card The new exercise for Lesson 3 is called the “Rocking Chair”. First you start with your hands on your hips. Then touch your toes. Stand back up. Then go into a squat.

Walking is Important Walking is one of the easiest exercises you can do to stay healthy. We need to walk between 10,000 and 15,000 steps each and everyday. That sure is a lot of steps!!!! If you walk 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day that equals 5 miles.

Making Walking a Habit Set short-term and long-term goals. Learn to count your steps Add steps where you can. You can do this by taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking further in the parking lot. Pick a walking partner. This could be your pet. Split up your time. You don’t have to do it all at one time.

Be Safe While Walking Be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Be careful when walking where there is traffic. Be sure to look both ways before you cross the street and always be sure to follow traffic safety rules. Be safe and walk with a partner. Don’t ever walk alone. Look both ways!!
