Course Selection Advice Complete the Freshman Seminar requirement during the first year. Complete the proficiencies and GERs by the end of the senior year. Take courses in subject areas that are possible majors. Try some new subjects, explore a variety of departments and build upon strengths. Be aware that certain majors have outside course requirements; learn what these are and plan accordingly. Be flexible and open to changes in your course schedule and always have alternative courses in mind. A typical first semester load is credits while the average is credits in subsequent semesters. Prepare for your faculty advising appointment during orientation by completing the course selection worksheet, reviewing the advising syllabus/catalog and creating a list of questions.
