Presentation transcript:

Dear Masterclass Mentor, We ask that you begin your “presentation” with engagement - a short interactive discussion to remind students of what they learned in the prep sessions. Here are 3 slides, one for each activity that we have included with the Masterclass materials. The first two, Rolling for Rutherford and the Quark Workbench would be good to start with; the Z Mass and Top Quark Mass activities are a good introduction to how masses of primary particles are calculated in LHC from daughter particle momenta and energies. In between, we hope you can talk about your own research and the upcoming tour of your lab facilities in the context of the larger picture of particle physics. Your talk can celebrate the many sides of the Big Picture of particle physics to engage the students.

Rolling with Rutherford Put in context of “Masterclass Institute” and “Masterclass Day”. 2 2

Quark Workbench Put in context of “Masterclass Institute” and “Masterclass Day”. 3 3

Top Quark Mass Put in context of “Masterclass Institute” and “Masterclass Day”. 4 4
