Paleontology, And Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs

The Giganotosaurus For many years paleontologists believed that the largest carnivore was the tyrannosaurus rex. But, in 1995 a dinosaur skull and leg much larger than a T Rex’s were found in Argentina. This gigantic dino’s name means “giant southern lizard”.

The T. Rex T. Rex, despite being slightly smaller than Giganotosaurus, was a fearsome carnivore that could grow to forty feet in length, and could way seven tons or more! The T. rex’s hind legs tapered off to sharp powerful birdlike claws. However it’s short front arms had two sharp claws.

The Seismosaurus The Seismosaurus was estimated to be one-hundred, twenty feet. The Seismosaurus was nick-named the earth shaker.

Paleontologists

Mary Anning Mary Anning was an avid fossil collector, and is arguably one of the best female paleontologists. to ever live. Mary has inspired many of today’s paleontologists.

Dr.Gideon Mantell In the 1800’s Mantell and his wife collaborated together and found several teeth. While many scientists thought that the teeth belonged to a large fish or mammal but mantell believed it belonged to an unknown creature.

Sir Richard Owen Both doctor and paleontologist Richard came up with the name “dinosaur”! #funfact Richard was asked to work with a royal family. As he worked he noticed that three fossils in the collection were dino bones unlike other bines in the collection.

Recap ~ We have learned about several dinosaurs, including T. Rex, seismosaurus, and the giganotosaurus. ~ We have learned about paleontologists Mary Anning, Dr.Gideon Mantell, and Sir Richard Owen. Moving On ~ We will watch a funny video ~ We will ask questions ~ We will look at funny images

QUESTIONS!!! 1--- What dino is larger than the T. rex? 2--- Who worked alongside their wife to find several dino teeth? 3--- What dinosaur is very commonly known to strong and large but is not the largest dinosaur?

FUN FACTS!!! ~The T. rex is the most commonly known dinosaur. ~Not all dinosaur names are hard to pronounce, for example iguanodon. ~There are many theories about how dinosaurs became extinct, for instance a flood or earthquake. ~Dinos are either a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore.
