MS Cloud: Shared with other organizations MS Cloud: Dedicated to the University of Iowa Purpose Hosting institutional data within UI network space. May be production or pre-production, depending on which server is used. Hosting MS Power BI, including development, test*, etc. Geared toward environments where consumers have Power BI Pro. Hosting MS Power BI deemed production (released to users, including user acceptance testing) Data Gateway N/A – Data Gateway not required Requires management with ITS Admins Access Not governed ITS-Monitored to comply with Access (Groups) App Workspace Creation ITS SQL Team creates folders Developers are responsible for workspaces Developers will work with ITS to create a new workspace and promote to Premium capacity Power BI Apps N/A Available, however require a Power BI Pro license to share Required to share content with users not assigned a Power BI Pro license. Licensing Requirements BI artifacts can be shared with anyone with a Iowa domain HawkID. Apps can only be shared with other Power BI Pro users, or the public. Apps can be shared with Power BI Free and Power BI Pro users. Paginated Reports Available. Also available on SSRS hosted servers. Available (in preview only) Data Refresh 48 / day 8 / day Embedded API and controls BI artifacts can be embedded in frames/applications without restriction. Can embed only in Office 365 Sharepoint Power BI web parts. Embed Power BI visualizations within custom applications (Microsoft registration required) Custom Visualizations Only approved custom visuals are allowed. Training Training recommended Completion of training is required prior to creation of the premium workspace. Institutional Data Policy Anyone publishing institutional data must adhere to the University of Iowa’s Institutional Data Policy.
