Description of Formative Performance Task: You will watch a video through Discovery Ed to be introduced to The Silk Road. Featured Source: Discovery Education Featured Tech Tools: Computer and Projector for whole class viewing of video Steps: Go to www.discoveryeducation.com and click in the search button, and search for the following video Ancient Trade Silk Road. Watch the video individually or watch this as a whole-class with the teacher. Think-Pair-Share Discussion. Questions for Discussion: What type of goods did the ancient Sumerians have to trade? What did the Sumerians purchase from other countries? Why are bodies of water so important to cities that are major trading centers? How did the Mesopotamian traders transport their goods overland? Description of Formative Performance Task: You will use Quizlet to learn more about the Silk Road and some of the cultural changes that could have taken place. Steps: Go to the site https://quizlet.com/100817600/cross-cultural-exchanges-on-the-silk-roads-flash-cards/. You will click on the “Learn Button” to learn some of the terms on the Quizlet. You should already have a background knowledge prior to this Quizlet. You will then play the memory game or use the flashcards to learn terms about the Silk Road and how cultural changed positively or negatively during this time period. Play the game several times trying to beat your score. 4. If time allows, take a snapshot of your scores and upload them to the blackboard assignment button Quizlet score”. You will have to have taken BB201 and need to have students enrolled in Blackboard to do step 4 which is optional. Assessment: Formative Assessment through teacher observation. MODIFICATION Grade 6 Unit 4 Summative Performance Task 3 MODIFICATION Topic: How is trade responsible for cultural change? Description of Summative Performance Task: You will explore several websites to learn about cultural change on The Silk Road. Then you will go to Thinglink and create an interactive picture. This will be done with a partner. Featured Source: Travel China Guide Ancient History Featured Tech Tools: Computers Steps: View the following two websites to get more information about The Silk Road to learn about cultural change during this time period. Make sure to write down some interesting facts that you learn on these webpages. https://www.travelchinaguide.com/silk-road/culture.htm and http://www.ancient.eu/Silk_Road/. Go to https://www.thinglink.com/ and log in to your account. Find a picture of the Silk Road and use this as your background. You will be making 5 tags along the route with important facts that you learned earlier from the two websites above. This must be about cultural changes along the route. You can use links, text, and pictures. You must explain any links that you add and explain any images that you add. Once you are done, save the Thinglink and create a link to your Thinglink. This will be shared below. For collaboration with other tables, you will join the Today’s Meet. There will be an open discussion meeting with Today’s Meet that will allow you to collaborate with another group. Please insert your link into the message and use this in your meeting to share your Thinglink. Please use this for an ongoing discussion to talk about cultural changes along the way of The Silk Road. REDEFINITION Grade 6 Unit 4 Summative Performance Task 4 REDEFINITION Topic: How is trade responsible for cultural change? Description of Summative Performance Task: You will create a Shadow Puppet presentation with a partner about cultural change on The Silk Road. You will then upload your video to Seesaw and use the collaboration tool to critique another class’s video. Featured Source: Shadow Puppet Seesaw Featured Tech Tools: iPads Steps: You will work with a partner for this activity and will have a strong background knowledge of the topic after doing tasks 1-3 prior to this activity. Go to the app “Shadow Puppet” on your iPad. You will use 5 images, drawings, or text that shows how trade is responsible for cultural change. You will then annotate and voice over explaining how each picture that you used relates to the topic. Make sure that I hear both you and your partner’s voices in the video. Once you complete your video, you will upload it to your See Saw account. You will then scan the barcode to another class and view TWO of their videos. You will use your accountable talk cards to comment on their video. Make sure that it is on topic and use your accountable talk cards. Teacher Name: Holly Doga School: F. K. Students do not need to have an account with Shadow Puppet but will need to be enrolled in your See Saw account to complete step 4. An option would be for students to view the videos directly from the iPads. Assessment: Email the teacher or create a rubric to go along with the activity to make this a formal assessment.
