Lessons taught by acute promyelocytic leukemia cure Hugues de Thé  The Lancet  Volume 386, Issue 9990, Pages 247-248 (July 2015) DOI: 10.1016/S0140-6736(15)61278-8 Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd Terms and Conditions

Figure Mechanism of leukaemia eradication by arsenic and retinoic acid Arsenic and retinoic acid bind the promyelocytic leukaemia (PML) and retinoic acid receptor-α (RARα) moieties of the PML–RARα fusion oncoprotein, respectively, triggering its degradation. This allows PML to activate p53 specifically in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) blasts, resulting in leukaemia eradication.
