Present Continuous By Shanthi

Look at these sentences about you. Are they true or false? You are a student. You are studying at UGRU. You have ten children. You are watching TV at the moment. You drive to school every day. You are listening to your teacher now.

We use the present continuous to talk about something that is happening now or around now. Future I’m going to do my homework tonight. Past I watched TV last night Now I’m listening to my teacher now.

We use the present continuous to talk about current trends. Nowadays, more and more people are eating healthy food. The population in Alain is getting bigger. In Dubai, the number of cars on the road is increasing.

Nowadays, families are getting smaller. Look at the pictures. Make a sentence using the present continuous to talk about current trends. Families (get) smaller. Nowadays, families are getting smaller. More people (use) Nowadays, more people are using mobile phones.

The number of obese people The number of bookshops tourists ….. Dubai

Present Continuous When we think about ‘now’ it does not always mean ‘at this moment’. It can mean around now, today, this week, this month, this year etc. but we many not be doing the action right now. Some examples:- He is studying to be a doctor. They are trying to come to class on time. She is teaching her child to be a good reader. Food prices are increasing. More and more Emiratis are studying at university.

Present Simple and Present Continuous Match the sentences with the correct time words. He is speaking slowly. He speaks slowly. usually right now

How to make the present continuous. BE verb + ing I am studying English. You are watching TV. He is eating his lunch. She is talking to her mother. It is raining at the moment. We are reading these sentences. They are playing football.

Present Continuous: Negative BE + not + ing I ’m not studying English. You aren’t watching TV. He isn’t eating his lunch. She isn’t talking to her mother. It isn’t raining at the moment. We aren’t reading these sentences. They aren’t playing football.

SPELLING I’m sitting here now. Some verbs double the last consonant when there is one consonant after one vowel: (b,c,d,f,g..) (a,e,I,o,u) I’m sitting here now. She’s chatting with her friend. BUT We’re waiting for you. 2) Do not double -x, -y or -z: I’m fixing this car. He’s playing football. We’re dozing. (b,c,d,f,g..)
