First day of class! Classes begin tomorrow, Tuesday, July 3. Meet in front of Building CE5 at 8:30 to get your class schedule. Then we’ll take you to your classroom

Class Schedule (Monday-Friday) Conversation & Culture 9:00-10:20 American Culture 10:30-11:50 CC Speaking/Listening 12:00-12:50 Pronunciation/Vocabulary OR Business Writing

Textbooks You will need textbooks for most classes. The names of the books will be on your class schedule. You can buy your books at the UCI Bookstore.

Class levels for CC: Level A: Beginning Level B: High beginning Level C: Low intermediate Level D: Intermediate Level E: High intermediate Level F: Advanced

Class levels for BE: No separate levels Intermediate level or higher If your score on the placement test is too low, we will place you in Conversation & Culture.

Placement Test Today’s test has 100 questions: 20 about listening 80 about grammar, vocabulary, reading

Part-time students If you have a tourist visa (not a student visa), your class hours must be less than 17 hours total per week Please come and talk to me about which classes you will take.

Grading for both CC and BE: Your classes receive letter grades. A = 90%-100% B = 80%-89% C = 70%-79% Failing = below 70% D = 60% - 69% F = < 60%

Attendance Policy Please attend class every day so that… You will learn as much as possible. You won’t have any visa problems. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Attendance Policy If you miss more than 14 total hours of classes… You will not receive a certificate of completion. You may be dismissed from the program.

Lateness Policy Less than 15 minutes late = Tardy 15+ minutes late = 1 hour absence 3 Tardies = I hour absence

Institutional TOEFL Test Thursday, July 26, 5:30 – 8:30 pm Paper and pencil test (not the iBT TOEFL) Cost: $50. You may sign up for the test at the cashier window in Building CE3. Your teachers will have more details. Deadline?
