Why should we have an ‘International Women’s Day’? #pressforprogress #iwd2018 Why should we have an ‘International Women’s Day’?

International Women’s day: 8th March 2018 It is a global celebration which aims to inspire women in countries across the world. The tradition began with the first National Women's Day in 1909 and its roots are in campaigning for better pay and voting rights. The theme this year is #PressforProgress. "We can't be complacent. Now, more than ever, there's a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. "A strong call to #PressforProgress. A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive." Stop at 3 mintues. Links to SMSC: Cultural, Moral. British Values: Rule of Law, tolerance and respect for others

Why do we celebrate International Women's Day? The aim of the day back in 1909 was for women to have equal pay - it's still an issue so the day is still being held every year. Women earn 14% less than men in the UK. Last year the #MeToo campaign also grew in momentum, after women started to speak out about sexual harassment. Why do you think women still get paid 14% less than men? Is this fair? What can we do about it?

Should we have an IWD? Do we really need an International Women’s Day? Why? Should we make more of an effort to close the gender gap for equal pay? Why? Should everyone just be treated equally? If anyone asks there is an International Men’s Day – 9th November 2018!
