Graduation Plans Current Freshman & Sophomores

General Overview Current students will be allowed to graduate under these graduation plans: –Minimum Plan; –Recommended Plan; and/or –Distinguished Plan.

Minimum Plan 26 credits –4 English, 3 Math, 2 Science and 4 Social Studies; –1 year of: –Fine Arts –Technology –Physical Education –1 semester of: –Professional Communication –Health –No Foreign Language Required. Parents must sign paperwork to agree to let their child switch to the Minimum Plan.

Recommended Plan 26 credits –4x4 Curriculum (4 English, 4 Math, 4 Science, and 4 Social Studies); –1 year of: –Fine Arts –Technology –Physical Education –1 semester of: –Professional Communication –Health –2 years of the same Foreign Language.

Distinguished Plan 26 credits –4x4 Curriculum (4 English, 4 Math, 4 Science, and 4 Social Studies); –1 year of: –Fine Arts –Technology –Physical Education –1 semester of: –Professional Communication –Health –3 years of the same Foreign Language; –4 Advanced Measures.

Foundation Plan This is the new plan under House Bill 5 –Freshman and Sophomore students can opt into the plan if we feel it is beneficial –4 English, 3 Math, 3 Science, and 3 Social Studies; –1 year of: –Fine Arts –Physical Education –2 years of the same Foreign Language.

Foundation Plan Endorsements –Must take an additional Math and Science for all endorsements (for a total of 4 Math and 4 Science). –This is the main piece we are awaiting clarification from the T.E.A. –The final verdict from the T.E.A. is expected to come to us in January.

Endorsements Students will be required to earn an Endorsement in one of the following areas: –STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) –Business and Industry –Public Services –Arts and Humanities –Multidisciplinary Studies We will not know the specific requirements for each Endorsement until January 2014.

House Bill 5 Effects on Testing

Effects on Testing The number of End Of Course (EOC) tests required to graduate has been reduced from 15 to 5 Freshman will take: –English 1 – This test will combine the Reading and Writing tests into one, with a five hour time limit –Algebra 1 –Biology Sophomores will take: –English 2 – This test will combine the Reading and Writing tests into one, with a five hour time limit Juniors will take: –U.S. History

Redesigned Test Structure One score only – no separate Reading & Writing scores Reading & Writing contribute equally to the total score –30% - Reading multiple choice –20% - Short answer questions –24% - Writing multiple choice –26% - Essay

Effects on Testing Current students who have taken and not passed the English 1 Reading or Writing OR the English 2 Reading or Writing will retake the test again in December. –The December retest will be the last time the two tests are separate. –After the December retest, a student who has not successfully completed the Reading or Writing test will have to take the new combined test.

Re-Testing Dates The following re-tests are scheduled by the State: –Writing I – December 2, 2013 –Reading I – December 3, 2013 –Writing II – December 4, 2013 –Reading II – December 5, 2013 All other re-tests will be completed during the week of December 2-6, 2013.

GPA Current Sophomores & above are on a 6.0 GPA Scale –6.0All classes that are not Advanced –7.0All Advanced, AP, and Dual Credit classes
