The Fate of Romeo and Juliet Name and Class period

Juliet had rather kill herself than to marry Prince Paris “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of yonder tower; Where serpents are; chain me with roaring bears; Or walk in thievish ways; or bid me lurk O'ercovered quite with dead men’s rattling bones, Or shut me nightly in a charnel house, With reeky shanks and yellow chapless skulls; Things that, to hear them told, have made me tremble— And hide me with a dead man in his shroud— Or bid me go into a new-made grave To live an unstained wife to my sweet love. And I will do it without fear or doubt, ACT 4 scene 1

ACT 4 Scene 2 “Where I have learned me to repent the sin yet she has another plan in mind; Juliet agrees to marry Paris, To you and your behests, and am enjoined she will still be with Romeo. By holy Lawrence to fall prostrate here To beg your pardon. (falls to her knees) Of disobedient opposition Henceforward I am ever ruled by you.” Pardon, I beseech you! ACT 4 Scene 2

Act 4 scene 3 Juliet fears that the potion she received to put her to sleep will actually cause her death. But she insists, she must take it—even if that means waking up in her own tomb. She was determined to be with her love, Romeo.

ACT 4 scene 4-5 After Juliet drinks the potion, a sleep to comes upon her. Her family thinks that she is dead, and the wedding becomes a funeral instead.

Act 5 scene 1
