Mini Lesson # 58 “Romeo and Juliet” Then and Now

Do Now: What are the effects of opening a play with a fight? It increases the level of adrenalin. Makes the movie more captivating. Grabs your attention. Keeps you glued to the action. Movies like Indiana Jones always begin with a fight.

Act I, Scene I A Street Fight! Lines 97-106 What has the Prince proclaimed? If you ever dare to cause another fight, I will not ask who started it, I will KILL your entire line!

Lines 118-119 A Mother’s Concern Lady Montague speaks only 2 lines Then she is quiet. This suggests the powerlessness of women in Verona. What do her words let you know?

Homework # 1 Lady Montague’s Journal In the Literary Notebook, Give Lady Montague a voice! Step into role as Lady Montague and write an entry in her diary. In it, express her concern for Romeo also say what she (you) think about the feud and the fight she (you) have just witness.
