Presentation transcript:

What is an Invasive Species? A non-native species that has established themselves into a new location. Causes environmental and/or economical damage by dominating their new habitat. Outcompetes native species There are hundreds of invasive species in the United States Includes plants, mammals, birds, and fishes.

The Great Lakes At least 25 invasive species have entered the Great Lakes. Lowering diversity in the lakes and interrupting food chains. Effects the community and the economy.

Examples Read the passage given to you on an invasive species in the Great Lakes. Discuss with your group the readings. Focus on the four questions on your graphic organizer in this discussion. Fill out the graphic organizer as directed with details answering each question.
