Presentation transcript:

Pre-AP is a set of content specific strategies designed to: Build rigorous curricula; Promote access to AP for all students; Introduce skills, concepts, and assessment methods to prepare students for success when they take AP; and Strengthen curriculum and increase the academic challenge for all students.

Inquiry labs that encourage students to ask questions and investigate problems in order to find solutions. Long-term projects and research ideas that extend and enrich science content with experiments, activities, inquiry-based projects, and internet and library research. Computer and calculator-based labs that offer a real-world glimpse into modern scientific investigation with the use of technology to investigate scientific problems. Assessments consisting of multiple outcomes, which allow students to utilize their individual strengths and interests.

Establish study routines and techniques as an 8 th grader rather than waiting until high school. Preparation for high school science courses without the risk of damaging your G.P.A. Advanced science courses run along side the advanced math courses. Will receive high school credit for the Gateways to Technology course elective without losing another elective.

PreAPRegular 42 minutes each day84 minutes each day 5-8 TAKS review each day, some review time will be outside of class minutes TAKS review each day Content preparation outside of class (reading of information, vocabulary, research, etc.) Content discussed/reviewed in class with some time provided to read, look up vocabulary, research, etc. Hands-on activities / labs during class with analysis of data and conclusions written up outside of class.
