Overview Project Motivation Semester 1 Accomplishments New Problem Statement Project Requirements Design Options Project Verificiation Future Work

Research Motivation/Background

Last Semester – Liver Phantom Developed catheter compatible liver phantom MRI compatible 8 Couinaud segments of liver Fully compatible with lab’s current pump Can be used to practice catheter guidance with MRI

Current Semester– New Problem Statement Our goal: Create an MR/X-Ray subject transport table Animal Study Procedure Position pig in custom made MRI coil Insert catheter into specific liver segment (MRI guidance) Transport animal, in the coil, to adjacent x-ray room Verify position of catheter with traditional x-ray method Study Goals: Validate MRI guidance Physician procedure training

Transport Table Specifications MRI compatible Material: attenuation < PVC coil Compatible with MRI/X-ray tables MRI coil must be held securely during imaging and transport Maneuverable by two people Support weight of the coil plus 60 kg specimen

Spatial Constraints MRI bore/couch creates all spatial constraints 16.9” 23.5” 15.5” .6” MRI bore/couch creates all spatial constraints X-ray has no limiting dimensions 14” O.D. coil Can only contact moving portion of couch Max width 15.5”

Design Options Construct device with rounded bottom and use adapter on X-Ray table Construct device with flat bottom, and use adapter on MR table

Round Bottom Design Rounded base of device fits MRI table curvature Adapter used to fit device to flat X-Ray table Rounded coil brackets Handles for use during transport Coil is bolted to device to hold in place

Flat Bottom Design Flat bottom rests on flat x-ray table Rounded supports fit MRI table curvature and support device Simple rails replace coil brackets Strap replaces bolt to hold coil in place Handles for use during transport

Transport Table Verification Test transfer using phantom (without coil) Verify table supports weight Verify researcher comfort Test transfer with coil (no animal) Test image & transfer with animal Insert catheter in specific Couinaud segment Transfer animal off of x-ray table, and back on Verify that catheter position

Future Work Assemble prototype (2 weeks) Begin transport table verification (phantom) Reserve time in imaging suite to test transfers in scan rooms Work with client to begin animal testing with device
